Young Eagles 2009 , Tentative Calendar

Welcome back to the 2009 Young Eagles season!!

2009 promises to be an even better year than 2008 as Sporty's has added a few new items to the Young Eagles program. The first item is that Sporty's will issue a 'logbook' to Young Eagles and access to the FULL online Private Pilot Ground School!! WOW!!

This is a fully functional REAL Private Pilot Ground School with a normal price of $199. This is thru the generosity of Hal Shevers of Sporty's Pilot Shop. This is truly a wonderful gift to our Young Eagles to help them make the transition to Private Pilot or Sport Pilot.

Our first Young Eagle's date is set for SATURDAY MAY, 23 2009. It will be held at SANFORD REGIONAL AIRPORT in Sanford Maine 8:30AM to 4PM. For those of you closer to Rochester's Skyhaven Airport, our first Young Eagle Rally there is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2009. 2007 Successful Young Eagle Rally Year

Thanks to everyone who helped support EAA Chapter 225's - 2007 Young Eagle Flight Rallies. We've been 15 years flying kids at Young Eagle Rallies at Skyhaven Airport in Rochester NH. Over the years over 1400 kids have partaken in the free flights, with at least one rally per year, sometimes two. In 2007 EAA 225 embarked and a busy schedule with four events scheduled. Three in NH & one in Maine.
In June at Skyhaven Airport in Rochester, we held our first event with an 'All You Can Eat - Pancake Breakfast' fundraiser that coincided with the Young Eagle Rally. We had 10 kids go for free rides. In August at Skyhaven, with a little more advertising, with the same morning menu, volunteer EAA Young Eagle Pilots flew 20 kids. In September we switched gears and held a first away rally netting 45 kids at Sanford Regional Airport. At the end of the day, everyone still at the airport were treated to a 'mini' Air Show with the Red Star Yak Group who were visiting Sanford during their east coast tour. In October we were back at Skyhaven, and flew another 39 kids. The September & October events were all day affairs with the 'All You Can Eat' Pancake Breakfast fundraisers. For 2007 all total, 114 kids went flying. Thanks again to all of the families that participated, to the volunteers on the ground and in the air who all make this event possible. And, Thank You to both Ossipee Valley Aviation at Skyhaven Airport in Rochester, New Hampshire; and to Southern Maine Aviation at Sanford Regional Airport in Sanford, Maine for giving EAA Chapter 225 a venue in which to operate this great program.
See you all next year!

EAA 225 Pancake Breakfast & Young Eagle Rally at Skyhaven

August 16, 2007 - Rochester's Skyhaven Airport
EAA Chapter 225 wishes to thank all those who attended our second 3rd Saturday of the month Pancake Breakfast & 'mini' Young Eagle Flight Rally. We were greeted to a cloudy & gusty day. The pancakes were hot and quite delicious with several members and families who came by to support the effort. We had four volunteer pilots and added one new EAA 225 member to the Young Eagle Pilot ranks, and nearby Antique & Classic Chapter 15 lent us their Young Eagle Coordinator who flew up from Northborough, Mass. Our EAA volunteer pilots flew (20) kids. It was a great day! See you next time!

Thanks For Your Support!

EAA 225 would like to thank all those who attended our 1st of the season Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser & mini Young Eagle Rally. The weather was great, with a nearly full blue sky. Held during the morning hours on Saturday, June 16th hungry appetites devoured great blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes, including yours truly! Um-m-m, Good! Thanks to the Young Eagle Pilots who volunteered their time, as they flew (10) participants. Everyone had smiles.
As Young Eagle Coordinator, I'd like to thank Ossipee Valley Aviation for giving us room to hold our event, for participating, for your help, and to all members who attended and helped with the event.
Our 2nd of the season Pancake Breakfast will be held on Sunday, July 15th for our 'Day After' breakfast, at Ted Sanderson's Airfield, in Greenland, NH, from 8 am to 11 am. The 'Day After - Pancake Breakfast' is Open to the Public, and is for the crews who dismantle the grounds used for the 16th Annual Yankee Ultralight Fly-in that runs from Saturday, July 7th through Saturday, July 14th. Due to activity on the field, there will be no Young Eagle Flights.
The 3rd Pancake Breakfast & mini Young Eagle Rally will be back at Skyhaven Airport, in Rochester, NH on August 18th from 8 am to 11 am. If needed, Sunday, August 19th is the rain date for this event. Hope to see you there!

Pancake Breakfast Fundraisers

Starting on Father's Day weekend, Saturday, June 16th; EAA 225 will be holding a Pancake Breakfast from 8 am to 11 am, at Skyhaven Airport, in Rochester, NH, to help raise funds for its EAA Young Eagle Flight program. Our chapter will hold a similar 'Pancake Breakfast' in August and September.
At all three outings, we will be also holding a 'mini' Young Eagle Flight Rally during the hours of the Pancake Breakfast. Remember, children from 8 years old to 17 years old are eligible as participants in the program. Dates for the upcoming Pancake Breakfasts are: Saturday, June 16th; Saturday, August 18th; and on Saturday, September 15th.

On Sunday, July 15th; EAA 225 will be holding a 'Pancake Breakfast' fundraiser in Greenland, NH at Ted Sanderson's Airfield. It will be held the 'day after' the Annual Yankee Ultralight Fly-In that runs from July 7th to July 14th. Our 'Day After' pancake breakfast was a hit last year; as we provided a hot meal during the partial disassembly of the event grounds regularly done the day after the fly-in. The breakfast is open to anyone who wishes to help with our fundraiser. Due to activity on the property, there will be no Young Eagle flights taking place on this day.

EAA 225 will be holding its bigger all-day long 'EAA Young Eagle Flight Rally' tentatively, on Saturday, October 6th from 9am to 4pm. More information regarding this bigger event will be published later.

Bring your appetites to a great pancake breakfast, with all donations serving a great program. Thank You!

June meeting

What a great turnout for the meeting, which was held in George May's hangar at Littlebrook airport. We all had an in depth tour of George's latest project, a Zodiac 601xl by Zenith aircraft. Everyone ws really interested in the all glass panel, consisting of a Dynon E.F.I.S., a Dynon flightdek, which combines an E.F.I.S. and an E.M.S. in one unit, and a Lowrance moving map G.P.S. What an impressive panel!!! Great work George. The powerplant is a Rotax 912s. 100 horsepower in a light, compact, very efficient package. Being a tech-head myself, I really like all the modern appointments. It's great that aviation is finally moving away from the "dinosaur technology" that has held on for so long. (what, no magneto's?)

Thanks for Successful Young Eagle Rally

As your Young Eagle Coordinator, I just want to thank everyone who helped at what was a very successful day. We managed to get (45) youngsters up for flights, and doing so while competing with Apple Harvest Day and the Deerfield Fair. Several families from Maine, New Hampshire, and one from Massachusetts attended our event. We were blessed with the great folks at Ossipee Valley Aviation who not only let us use the airfield, but they gave us an airplane to use for ground school instruction. With plenty of eager children, lots of both ground & pilot volunteers, and a beautiful day, the members and friends of EAA Chapter 225 enjoyed our fall Young Eagle Rally.
